About This Episode

Individuals can affect the urban planning process by protest and resistance, or by working within the system. This forum begins with the proposition that Jane Jacobs (http://www.pps.org/info/placemakingtools/placemakers/jjacobs) was not beholden to any particular strategy for creating change in urban planning. Discussing different ways to help individuals make their voices heard were Marshall Brown of Atlantic Yards Development Workshop (http://www.dddb.net/php/community/unity.php), Alexie Torres-Fleming of the Southern Bronx Watershed River Alliance (www.southbronxvision.org/), Joshua David of Friends of the High Line (www.thehighline.org/), Reverend Billy and Savitri D of the Church of Stop Shopping (www.revbilly.com/), and moderator Richard Kahan of Urban Assembly (www.urbanassembly.org/). The forum was part of the "Jane Jacobs and the Future of New York" programs, and was held at The Municipal Arts Society of New York (http://www.mas.org/index.php).
